The Roadside Apple Tree

The roadside apple tree stands out of place in a flat foreverness of roads that stretch between farm fields like a horizontal root system.

She’s small and overgrown. The shape of an apple tree, but not quite.

Her fruit is familiar and different. It looks and tastes like apples, but not quite.

She cultivates the best life she can despite her growing conditions. But an apple tree doesn’t belong on the roadside. It can survive there, but not quite.
